FLOW Mechanical Engineering / Fluid Dynamics

UGA’s Dr. Ben Davis unique fluid dynamics formula was the inspiration for ‘FLOW’.

The Navier-Stokes equation formulated for ‘2D incompressible flow’ was used to create this amazing display of visual fluid dynamics.  A dye was injected into a water tunnel to visualize the fluid flow around a cylinder.  The equation and process captured on video, both validate the formula while providing a lasting impression.

Collaboration College of Engineering

At it’s core, the College of Engineering understands that 21st century engineers require more than technical knowledge.  Though collaboration the college equip students with an understanding  of the social and economic impact of their work, the ability to communicate their ideas to a wide variety of people, the ability to work effectively in teams, and the skills to provide leadership in helping to solve society’s greatest challenges.

Our diverse college of professors, staff and students share knowledge and information in multi-faceted ways:  through collaboration, inclusion, accessibility, adaptability and astrong code of ethics.

ELECTRO-SLIDE BioChemical Engineering / Manufacturing

Metabolic Engineering involves targeted alteration of biochemical pathways to improve the yield of high-value biological product s. Drs. Mark Eiteman and Yajun Yan use metabolic engineering and synthetic biology to enhance the microbial synthesis of liquid bio fuels, biopharmaceuticals and chemicals commonly used in the food and cosmetic industries, such as succinic acid and pyruvic acid.

Optimization enables us to achieve sustainable manufacturing of these products and provides economic value to underutilized resources. Gel electrophoresis is used to evaluate gene and protein expression and has enabled us to identify and engineer key metabolic pathways.
